Professor Lars Olof Björn has for many decades been the humble front figure of Swedish plant UV photobiology as well as a successful advocate for popularization of science in his native country. On the occasion of his 80th birthday, I take the opportunity to share some personal reflections on his importance for different aspects of the development of science.
